In oilfield drilling operations, fluid loss control is lowering the volume of filtrate that passes through a filter medium; this is simply the prevention of drilling fluid leakage during drilling operations.
In general terms, fluid loss refers to the loss of continuous phase (e.g., water and oil) of the drilling fluid during a challenging well drilling operation. Fluid loss usually happens during deep drilling, cementing, and completion of the well. When the hydrostatic pressure in the hole is higher than the formation pressure, the contentious phase (e.g., water and oil) enters the formation. In other words, when downhole pressure exceeds the breakdown pressure, there can be a significant amount of fluid loss.
Fluid loss and invasion of the aqueous phase into the formation can reduce hydrocarbon production and damage matrix permeability. Such fluid loss causes tremendous problems during drilling, cementing, and well-completion operations. Various additives are added to the drilling mud to prevent such fluid loss. These additives fight problems such as borehole instability, provide lubricity to the diverted holes, seal the formation, and act as a bridge to contest differential pressure sticking. The additives for fluid loss control also help maintain a constant water-solid ratio in downhole cement slurries to control the rate of water loss to adjacent permeable zones.
At Centum, we have researched the leading causes behind fluid loss in a wide range of onshore and offshore well-drilling operations. After years of research and development, we have formulated a new generation fluid loss control additive that can be used for both onshore and offshore drilling operations. Our newest invention, FluidVerse, is a high-performance fluid loss control additive blend that lowers fluid loss at its best in challenging onshore or offshore drilling operations. It offers ultimate performance and, at the same time, helps drilling engineers meet environmental regulatory requirements, i.e., ESG goals. We are putting our best effort into helping oilfield operators cut operational costs without compromising performance and sustainability targets.
When formulating an advanced ultra-performing product, we prioritize two essential parameters- performance and sustainability. Centum’s FluidVerse is a perfect example of our innovation capacity. We have formulated FluidVerse to address one of the most challenging issues during onshore and offshore drilling operations. FluidVerse is an advanced additive blend that can be added to any drilling fluid to prevent and control fluid loss at its best. Our fluid loss control additive blend helps lower the filtrate volume that passes through a filtration medium. When used during well-cementing, it helps prevent water loss from the slurry, and when used during well-completion, it helps prevent fluid loss through the filtration medium. Our fluid loss control additive blend is designed and engineered to provide ultimate performance in any uncontrolled fluid loss situation. FluidVerse is readily or ultimately biodegradable which helps to meet drilling engineers’ sustainability and ESG goals. The raw materials in FluidVerse are locally sourced and readily and ultimately biodegradable. It offers the ultimate workplace and worker safety and does not contaminate soil or water.
